A term originally coined in the early 2000’s, meninism started as a term for male feminists. The original meninists believed in the equality of the sexes. This humble and reasonable beginning radically changed course in the past few years. Modern meninism is now associated with men’s rights activists, a group of people who only recognize the shouts of radical feminists and disregard the real meaning of feminism. This misconception led to the idea that feminists hate men and don’t care about or address male problems. True feminists should be willing to discuss men’s problems too, seeing as many of men’s masculinity problems stem off from the fact that women are looked on as “lesser” beings. Men do have actual valid problems. Now, we need to discuss meninism as a problem for both men and women. Why should we care? This movement has a huge following. Twitter accounts, tumblr pages, merchandise, reddit subcategories, articles, and other social media accounts have been dedicated to meninism. The prevalence of this phenomena should worry you. Meninism contradicts a positive movement in a way that people blindly follow. With a twisted, anti-feminist logic, meninism created a mainstream following. Even women follow this trend, claiming “they are fed up of feeling judged by feminists.” This should worry you.

When I first saw this blog title and the first picture, I immediately thought of my friend, who is an outspoken feminist. I had already heard a very long winded rant about this topic a while back, but i thoroughly enjoyed your post. The back ground you gave and the way you gave both sides of the argument enlightened me a little more on the topic than the angry rant I received earlier.

Thank you! I'm going to try to be as level-headed as possible while still uncovering a worrisome topic. Nobody wants to hear angry rants with no substance!

Being drawn in by your title "Meninist" I was curious as to what the topic would be about. However, after reading your blog I can see that this is quite the issue. I mostly agree with what you had to say here and find it very assuring that you will be looking at it from both sides with an open mind.

I'm glad you agree that it is an issue. Would you mind enlightening me on what you disagree with? I'd like to know what you're thinking!

I was immediately drawn in by your title and I had to read what you had to say on the topic of Meninists. I love how you feel so strongly about this topic and it really shows in your writing. I also did not know that Meninism used to be used as a term for male feminists, so thank you for further explaining that. Great blog!

This is an awesome topic! I love you comment about how true feminists would be concerned about men as well. I am very interested to read more about this!

I agree with you that this is an issue that deserves to be looked into. I look forward to reading your upcoming blogs, and understanding what the term meninist really means, ans what people actually use it for. You hear a lot about feminism but not so much about meninism. It should be interesting.

Julia, I believe you are totally misunderstanding the concept of the "menisim" culture. In my belief, the menists are only there to point out the ridiculous beliefs in extreme feminists (click the link here to see an example: https://twitter.com/MeninistTweet/status/642011402199281664). It is only out there to poke fun at the absurd feminists that believe in women superiority, rather than basic women rights/equality. Nonetheless, I am intrigued by your topic choice and will most definitely continue to read throughout the semester.

I'm so thankful for finding this page. I remember once one of my friends had mentioned the term meninist, but thought it was a silly little thing. At the time I wasn't even sure what it meant. Thank you for explaining this movement and how it's a much bigger issue than I thought. Also I'm happy that you state what a true feminist is about. I feel men are confusing extreme-feminists with feminists. These are completely different in my opinion, but are often lumped together. I can't wait to hear more on this topic.
